More on the Arts Union

This just in:

\The College is currently working to clean out stored items in the Arts Union. We had a sale last Saturday and the rest will be moved out as soon as possible. Asbestos removal began yesterday, Monday, April 19, in the 1954 classroom wing. Asbestos abatement will include removing the windows from the classroom wing and because windows will be removed, a construction fence will be installed to secure the site. The sidewalk along the park, which is on Carleton property, will be inside the fence. The sidewalk will be closed along the east side of the building between Third and Fourth Streets.  Abatement is scheduled to be complete mid-May and demolition of the 1954 classroom wing and boiler house room is expected to begin May 17.       Ed

Dear NESNA members:    Thanks to the work of Barbara Burke and Suzie Nakasian, we have this fine graphic for you:

A Grass Roots Effort to Grow Old at Home

We thank Margit Johnson and Bob Bruce for bringing this article to our attention.     It appeared today, Apr. 14. 2010, in the NY Times, and rather than reproduce it here, we submit the reference to you as a fine example of how our senior citizens are more and more finding ways to keep their beloved homes and avoid the often-difficult transition into assisted living arrangements.      We will, however, show you the fine photograph that accompanies the article.       Ed

A Sure Sign of Spring

This was taken on the 13th hole of the golf course, but the theme is seen everywhere in the midwest, and is a sure harbinger of summer:   painted turtles sunning themselves.    Enjoy——Ed
